   FIG. B1. Velocity distributions, Mahurangi Harbour. Measurements collected at sites indicated on the right panel have been extensively described in Green et al. (1998). 20 units in the coordinate system correspond to 2 km. Site 4 (S4) was the only site with no Atrina and where skimming flow was not observed to develop. Sediment at site 2 (S2) was characterized by sandy-shell material. At the other sites (S1, S3, S4), a muddy component was always present. Colorscale indicates increasing (from blue to red) percentages of time above a certain velocity.
