DI13C was inferred (Fry and Smith 2002) from barnacle shells that were treated overnight with sodium hypochlorite (Chlorox) to remove organic material, rinsed in deionized water, crushed, leached again overnight in sodium hypochlorite, and then rinsed and dried. Barnacle specimens were collected in July 2002 in both study areas.
