Appendix A. Plant species list.
Plant species list and their classification as grass, shallow- or tap-rooted forb. Forb species were classified into shallow- and tap-rooted categories based on qualitative field excavations of root morphology. Shallow-rooted forb species had fibrous rooting structures, mostly concentrated in the 0–10 cm soil layer. Tap-rooted forb species showed evidence of a thickened taproot structure that is assumed to penetrate deeper into the soil profile.
