FIG. A1. For experiment 1, the standard error of the estimate of wt- and GFP-Ap cell densities on each leaf segment graphed as a function of the estimate of the mean. Standard errors were computed from four replicate plates produced for each segment using the grind-plate technique of Woody et al. (2003). Each of these segment-specific standard errors was input into the statistical state-space model to give the measurement error associated with each data point and in Eq. 7). Standard errors for data from experiment 2 are similar.
