R code and comments Details of computer programs (in R) used in the paper. N2O Emission Data for the N2O emission Example. rtol Richness tolerance data for the EUSE Example. EUSE_ENV_Data Data for the EUSE example, describing environmental characteristics of each metropolitan area. EUSE_AG_GRASS Data for the EUSE example, providing estimated background agricultural land use information.
R programs for the examples in the paper and in Appendix A are in this file.
The N2O emission data set has seven columns:
group - study index, each represent a published study; crop - type of crop used by the study, carbon - soil carbon, sample.period - study duration in days, fertilizer - type of fertilizer used, n.input - amount of nitrogen fertilizer used, emission - N2O emission
The richness tolerance data set has eight columns:
city - names of metropolitan areas, suid - study unit ID, unique identification number for each metropolitan area (USGS) sample - sample ID, unique identification number for each watershed agr - agricultural land use as a percentage of the watershed area richtol - average tolerance value nuii - national urbanization intensity index
Regional environmental data set has seven columns:
suid - study unit ID city - names of metropolitan areas staid - USGS station ID sname - site name AnnMeanT - annual mean ambient temperature AnnMeanP - average annual precipitation DomEcoReg - Ecoregion
Background agricultural data set has five columns:
suid - study unit ID city - names of metropolitan areas PNLCD7 - grassland coverage (%) PNLCD8 - agriculture land cover (%) PNLCD78 - PNLCD7+PNLCD8
