Immediately to the west of UDW are paved university parking lots, athletic fields, and a football stadium. To the north and east are agricultural fields and academic buildings. To the south is a residential development. The nearest forest remnant to the ESE is approximately 300 m away and separated by a busy four-lane highway (Route 4); the remnant to the NE is approximately 1 km away. The forest remnant to the west was removed in 1998 to make room for businesses. The area without roads approximately 1.5 km to the west of UDW was an active automotive manufacturing plant throughout the course of this study. Route 95 runs approximately ENE to WSW in the lower right hand corner of the figure.
